Puerto Rico CME Requirements for MD and DO Physicians:

  • Total CME: 60 hours every 3 years.
  • Specialty-specific CME: At least 50% (30 hours) must relate to the physician’s specialty, subspecialty, or certification.
  • Required topics:
    • 2 hours — Dengue, Chikungunya & Zika
    • 1 hour — Diabetes
    • 1 hour — Vaccination
    • 1 hour — Obesity prevention
    • 1 hour — Cardiovascular health
    • 3 hours — Pain management
    • 3 hours — Antibiotics
    • 4 hours — Bioethics & professionalism
    Remaining CME: 44 hours may be completed in any topic.
  • Autism: Physicians who work with individuals with autism must complete 15 hours related to autism.
  • Pediatricians: Must complete 6 hours related to autism.
  • Emergency room physicians: Physicians providing direct or indirect hospital ER services must complete 20 hours in Emergency Medicine, which may include CPR, ACLS, PALS, emergency management, and emergency medicine coursework.
