Navigating the maze of continuing medical education (CME) requirements can be a complex task for busy healthcare professionals. Each state presents its unique set of rules, with Alaska being no exception. The state demands a substantial commitment to ongoing learning, coupled with specific subject mandates that ensure physicians are well-versed in critical areas of patient care. To aid Alaska-based MDs and DOs, we've distilled these requirements into a clear, easily digestible format. This should serve as a streamlined reference, eliminating the tediousness of compliance and allowing you to focus on what you do best: providing exceptional care to your patients.

For Alaska MD and DO physicians, here’s what’s required to stay current:

  • CME Credits Required: 50 hours every 2 years
  • Type of Credits Required: All must be AMA Category 1 or AOA Category 1 or 2
  • DEA Licensee Requirements: At least 2 hours in pain management and opioid use and addiction. Physicians without a current DEA registration may request a waiver until they apply for DEA registration
  • Exemption Limit: Physicians may not be exempted from more than 15 hours of continuing education in a five-year period

CME Trail offers a tailored collection of CME opportunities that adhere to Alaska's guidelines. We provide a variety of educational resources, from an AI Question Bank, AI Medical GPT, AI Podcasts designed to fulfill the state-mandated topics while also fitting into busy schedules. Earn up to 120 AMA PRA Category 1 credits. For further details regarding these requirements, please visit The Federation of State Medical Boards.
